Have you ever yearned or just dreamed of trying something new but feel too old, too young, too unfit, scared of failure or being judged? Whatever the reason, let me tell you about my ‘Tap Shoes’.
I bought a pair several years ago in a charity shop. Tap dancing was always something I had wanted to do but just never had the opportunity because life happens to us all in different ways. Over the years, I would come across those tap shoes believing that I would one day wear them.
Just after Christmas, I came across a Facebook post about Adult Tap and Dance lessons.
Wowsers … it was about to start a week later. The class was to be held a couple of miles away from my home (tick), it was at a time that perfectly fitted with me (tick), it was very reasonably priced (tick), they were offering other dance opportunities within the same lesson (tick), and it was something I had always so wanted to do (tick).
I can think of lots of other ticks … these are just a few.
Well, I am delighted to say that 4 weeks in, I’m absolutely loving it. I’m even doing Ballet, Modern and a plethora of other dance genres. I’m having a ball. I make mistakes, I am uncoordinated. Is that a challenge? Yes! And a brilliant one it is, because I am doing the thing I have wanted to do for a lifetime. It’s never too late. It’s not about being perfect. It’s the most wonderful journey of living life now and enjoying every magical minute as best we can and having the most amazing fun with like-minded people along the way.
What is ‘your Tap Shoes’ effect? What can you do today?
